Get Away to the Frederick Fiber Festival

Earlier this month we set up a booth at the Frederick Fiber Festival in Frederick, MD.  The booths spanned both indoors and out.  The indoor vendors had wonderful air-conditioning and the outdoor vendors were housed in this most amazing  giant, white big top tent.  The showed was filled with glowing  fiber enthusiasts ready to shared their experiences and glean knowledge.  The big top tent and the indoor building were literally filled with people.

I was lavishing in the energy given off from the people shopping around.  You can’t resist it.  To me, in general fiber festivals are one of the happiest, creatively diverse shows I  attend. And you never know who you are going to run into from in the knitting world.  Famous designers, shop owners and manufacturing companies may drop in for a spell.

This was our first time attending this show and it’s the second year they have held it.   By now you probably know that for a fledgling show the turnout was fabulous.  Our booth was filled with our Coopworth yarn and roving, hand dyed yarn, beautiful hand-turned wooden yarn bowls, and drop spindles.

I am going to jump right into the highlight of the show.  We had the honor of meeting Sam Barsky.  He is a knitting celebrity that is well noted in knitting magazines and social media for his sweaters.  His sweaters chronicle favorite vacation spots, cherished experiences and  fun memories.

He displayed 30 of his favorite sweaters.  Their pictures ranged from the Golden Gate bridge to London and an alpaca farm to fun seascapes.  The ocean bottom was my son’s favorite.

We plan to vend their next year.  I am wondering who they will bring in.  Whomever they choose, I know it will be great.

Happy Knitting,
